BC-STV - Single Transferable Vote

BC-STV – Question 1: Has this system work in places where it’s been implemented? What’s the proof?

Given the goal of more proportional representation in our provincial legislative body, has the implementation of STV been shown in other jurisdictions to have provided that?  For example has the representation in legislature in terms of seats lined up with the popular vote?

On the other side of the coin, have any jurisdictions who’ve put this into place repealed it after using it?

STV Proportionality is demonstrated everywhere it has been used. For example, the average winners bonus (the difference between the percentage of votes won and the percentage of seats awarded) in Ireland over the past 60 years is 3.5%. In BC the average winners bonus over the same time period is very close to 20%.

Alberta used STV in the major cities for provincial elections from 1926 – 1955. It was abandoned by Earnst Manning in 1955 but his son, Preston Manning, is a big supporter.
